The Cadillac CT6, GM’s range-topping luxury sedan, is adding new technology to the drivetrain lineup in the form of a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) propulsion system. The CT6, which should be available at Bill DeLord Cadillac Buick GMC soon, is expected to get more than double the fuel economy that the conventional drivetrains in the CT6 put out.
The CT6 features a lightweight structure, so it makes sense to put the PHEV into this model. With the reduction of weight, you’ll find that the PHEV provides more than enough power for this luxury model. You’ll find that the CT6 provides crisp acceleration, exceptional gas mileage and a longer electric driving range.
For daily commutes, the CT6 uses all electric driving, while it maximizes fuel efficiency while using gas and electric on the highway or while carrying heavier loads. Even if energy is stored in the battery, the CT6 will use a combination of gas and electric.
This model features an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 192 prismatic pouch cells. This battery leads the industry for quality levels of less than two problems per million battery cells produced. Over 73,000 GM plug-in hybrids use more than 20,000,000 battery cells. You can charge the battery with a 120-volt or 240-volt charger. As of yet, range estimate have not been released by Cadillac.
The regenerative braking system features an electronic stability program and iBooster to capture the most energy possible; and it has a blended braking so that the system for the most energy recovery in a reduced stopping distance.
The CT6 features a 2.0-liter engine with a turbo charger and variable valve technology combined with an electric motor. A rear-wheel drive electric variable transmission provides all-electric launch with great acceleration and smooth transition through the driving range. The two-motor EVT features three planetary gears to help facilitate spirited acceleration. This combination makes 335 horsepower and 432 pound-feet of torque.
